Dirt Rally 2 Renault R5 Turbo Philips Saby |
||
This is the livery of the Renault 5 Turbo that competed in Group B of the 1983 Tour De Corse driven by Bruno Saby and co-driven by Chris Williams.
Placing only 5th in this rally the Renault was out classed by the Lancia 037 which took the top 4 places. The Philips Auto Radio team liveries were well known having been used by the factory Renault Elf team throughout the 1983 and 1984 championships, driven by both Bruno Saby and Jean Ragnotti in the 5 Turbo and R5 Maxi Turbo.

Dirt Rally 2 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth Panach Auriol Occelli |
||
This is the livery of the 1988 Tour de Corse winning Ford Sierra RS Cosworth driven by Didier Auriol and co-driven by Bernard Occelli.
Ford turned to the Sierra to replace the RS200 at the top level after the demise of Group B at the end of 1986 so required a production car that could be homologated under Group A. The Ford Sierra RS Cosworth was chosen for tarmac rallies along with it's 4wd counterpart the XR4x4 for the gravel rallies but the XR4x4 was too underpowered and couldn't compete with the other cars. So for the 1988 and 1989 season Ford focused on the RS Cosworth which was able to grab a number of podium finishes but without 4wd it never managed a win on the loose surface rallies. It may have had a hard time on the gravel and dirt against the likes of the Lancia's with their 4wd, but on tarmac it was a serious contender. In 1988 a young Didier Auriol at the wheel of the Sierra RS Cosworth was able to take Ford's first World Rally Championship event win since 1981, and Didier's first WRC win at his home rally of the Tour de Corse. Unfortunately it turned out to be the Sierra's only World Rally Championship win as this prestigious moment could not be repeated by any subsequent Sierra's before it was replaced by the Escort Cosworth.

Dirt Rally 2 BMW E30 M3 Rothmans Motul Bernard Béguin |
||
This is the 1987 Tour de Corse Rally winning livery for the BMW E30 M3, driven by Bernard Béguin and Jean-Jacques Lenne. In 1987 Prodrive secured a deal with BMW France and Rothmans to run the French pairing of Bernard Béguin and Jean-Jacques Lenne in the 1987 French Rally Championship. The deal would also include the WRC round 5 event 'Tour de Corse' which was then part of the French Rally Championship also. The end of the rally brought a popular victory for this French pairing and the very small British Prodrive team. This was the first time a privateer team had won a WRC event since 1981 when Prodrive founder Dave Richards sat in the co drivers seat next to Ari Vatanen, this time Richards was team owner and Prodrive had scored it's first of many WRC victories. Not forgetting that this nimble little car from Munich was solely designed to win the World Touring Car Championship (Which it did later that year). Since then no normally aspirated, front engine, RWD car has ever won a round of the World Rally Championship.

Dirt Rally 2 Peugeot 205 T16 Peugeot Talbot Timo Salonen |
||
This is the 1985 1000 Lakes Rally winning livery for the Peugeot 205 T16 Evo 2, driven by Timo Salonen and Seppo Harjanne. This was the rally which cemented Timo Salonen's place in history as the 1985 drivers champion as well as gaining the 1985 manufacturers title for Peugeot and also set a record for 4 Rally wins in a row (unbeaten until 2005 by Sebastien Loeb). This was also the first outing for the new Peugeot 205 T16 Evo 2. Timo and Seppo narrowly beat out Stig Blomqvist and Bjorn Cederberg in a new Audi Quattro S1 E2 by 48 seconds over the 479 Kilometers, but Timo had all but won the championship going into the round and gained the points needed to come out the other side as a legend.

Dirt Rally 2 Ford Escort Mk2 Hannu Mikkola |
||
This is the 1979 Lombard RAC Rally winning livery for the Ford Escort Mk2 driven by Hannu Mikkola and Arne Hertz. Mikkola and Hertz were only beaten in the Championship that year by one point by Ford team mates Bjorn Waldegard and Hans Thorszelius who were also driving a Ford Escort Mk2 RS1800. Because of this, the Ford Rally team won the manufacturers title for 1979 by taking wins in Portugal, Greece, New Zealand, Canada and Great Britain.
